Reflections regarding Sunday December 22, 2024 travelling between Caesarea, Israel and Casarea, Israel

At Beit Guvrin National Park the archaeologists want to learn about bones, pottery, and other stuff to know about people from maybe thousands of years ago or maybe fifty years ago. You can become an archaeologist at Beit Guvrin for a day. Kids are allowed to dig. We dug with these tools. We dug with a pick. We dug with a spade. We dug in humongous caves. Our guide told us the Edomites lived there and then the Jews lived there, maybe. I found a bone, some pottery, and that’s it. The bone means that the animal maybe got sacrificed for the people to eat it. It was cool. Our guide said that the pottery might have been used as bowls, plates, and jars.

After we dug, we climbed out on steep stairs. Then, we got out of the tent that led to the cave. Our next job was to sift dirt to find stuff we missed that was supposed to be going into the “find” bucket. We found some bone, pottery, and charcoal and put it in the “find” bucket.

I felt excited when we dug and found stuff and sifted. I felt bored when we dug and couldn’t find stuff. I felt scared going up and down the steep stairs. I felt strong when we were spelunking. I recommend you do this activity.
