Reflections regarding Tuesday July 30, 2024 in Reykjavík, Iceland

Chaim already posted about this (see Our First Sick Day), but I thought it would be fun to post mine as well. Why? Because unbeknownst to each other, we were writing our summaries of this moment in Edinburgh in two different locations. Our accounts are similar enough, but differ in certain areas that I find amusing. Without further ado, here is my brief summary of how we ended up down two men on the second day of a yearlong adventure.

We had an eight-hour tour of the Golden Circle scheduled for our second day in Iceland that we were all excited about. Shai was especially excited because he was the assigned photographer of the day. However, fate was not on his side. At 4:45AM Shai woke me and said his stomach was burning and began crying in pain. “Poor kiddo,” I thought while wishing I was still asleep. After about an hour of trying to help him feel better, he puked. Then he puked again. I imagine it was a mix of over exhaustion and constipation from terrible eating the week leading up to our departure. He slept for an hour. We thought it might be over, but no. About ten minutes before we were all heading out the door he threw up again. Chaim and I looked at each other and he told me to take the other boys. We walked out the door to catch the local bus. As soon as we got to the bus stop I realized I had forgotten my wallet in the hullabaloo this time. I tried calling Chaim on the phone. I couldn't understand why he wasn't picking up until I saw him running across the street to the bus stop. I thought he had noticed my wallet, but it turned out he needed something from me. He saved the day by sprinting back into the house, grabbing my wallet, and handing it to me as the bus arrived. I quickly finished setting up the local bus app on my phone and purchased one ticket – kids ride free! you might have guessed, the boys made fun of me.
